Geological and Environmental Remote Sensing Laboratory (GERS Lab)
It was founded in January 2002 as part of the Department of Geology in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Current research is mainly focused on environmental monitoring with biogeo-optical properties and digital images and developing Geographic Information Systems.

It was created to fulfill the need for a local firm in Puerto Rico, with real hands-on experience in the development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing projects. Focused on the unique needs of mapping and GIS applications, Geographic Mapping Technologies, integrates a group of professionals composed by GIS experts, environmentalist scientists, planners, engineers and computer analyst programmers that contribute developing tools for analysis to support decision making process. GMT is the exclusive distributor for ESRI products and ENVI in Puerto Rico.

Este portal está dedicado a todos los usuarios de Sistemas de Información Geográfica, Sistemas de Teledetección Espacial y Sistemas de Posicionamiento Global que responsablemente utilizan los mismos para la buena planificación del territorio y el bienestar común. Tiene como propósito ayudar en: (1) Promover el uso de la tecnología Geoespacial, (2) Fomentar la colaboración entre grupos de usuarios, (3) Coordinar actividades relacionadas al GIS, (4) Intercambiar conocimientos en la tecnología, y (5) Conocer proyectos y aplicaciones desarrolladas.
