Interdisciplinary Center A (Chemistry and Ethics): The educational teams will participate and be exposed to groups situations and discussions based on the important role of ethics (bioethics) in the rapid development of Biotechnology. The ET will be able to visit a Biotechnology research lab at the Chemistry building, and also to the visualization center, where they will be able to understand molecular modeling and its implications and application in problem solving.
Interdisciplinary Center B (Engineering): Nanotechnology and bioengineering has been important disciplines and areas where engineering and biotechnology has common ground. The students will visit a lab where this kind of research is being done, and will relate the research with important medical application.
Interdisciplinary Center C (Marine Biotechnology and Business Administration): The basic purpose of this visit is to make the ET reflex about the important resources that we have being in an Island, how Biotechnology can take advantage of the availability of these resources for the generation of important medical and pharmaceutical products. The Business Administration talk have the purpose of showing the ET the bases of knowledge based economy by biotechnology, and present to the ET novel future, possible and realistic professional alternatives such as entrepreneurship. The basic idea is to demonstrate that there is an entrepreneur alternative that lies within us, that has not been explore, and that we have the intellectual capability to develop local Biotech, or Biopharma industries.
Interdisciplinary Center D (Bioprospecting, Environmental and Plant Biotechnology): The ET will visit labs, and will be exposed to seminars, short talks and exhibitions related to research projects in biotechnology used to solve environmental problems, to develop contaminant biosensors, and the used of genetic engineering techniques to search for novel chemotherapeutic agents, and activities. Finally, the ET will be exposed to a lab where the biotechnological study models are the plans, and how they can be used to solved important problems. |
